Jimmy Horn Jr.’s time with the Carolina Panthers has come to an end. Carolina waived the wide receiver after its season-opening loss to the Chicago Bears, opening the door for Horn to continue his NFL career with the Cleveland Browns.
According to the Akron Beacon Journal, Horn is expected to join Cleveland’s practice squad. The move would reunite him with former Colorado teammate Shedeur Sanders.
Why the Panthers made the move
The Panthers waived Horn after signing veteran linebacker Tyrel Dodson from the practice squad. Carolina needed to make room for Dodson on the 53-man roster, and Horn became the corresponding roster move.
Horn’s NFL opportunity continues
Horn was selected by Carolina in the sixth round of the 2025 NFL Draft. As a rookie, he appeared in 13 games and contributed on offense and special teams.
Through his NFL career, Horn has recorded 11 receptions on 16 targets for 108 yards. He has also carried the ball eight times for 69 yards, showing the versatility that made him an intriguing prospect coming out of Colorado.
The Browns’ practice squad was already at its limit when the report surfaced, so Cleveland will need to make another move to officially create space for Horn.
A familiar reunion in Cleveland
The Browns opportunity carries an added storyline. Horn could once again work alongside Sanders, his former college teammate from Colorado.
For Horn, the practice squad is a chance to learn Cleveland’s system, compete for a larger role and work his way back onto an active NFL roster. For Sanders, having a familiar target nearby could add another layer to Cleveland’s developing offense.
The situation is still developing, but the headline is clear: Jimmy Horn Jr. is no longer with Carolina, and Cleveland appears ready to give him his next opportunity.
